Savate espadrilles shoes are designed in California and handmade in Europe. The shoes are made with linen fabric and braided ropes. The main accent of these shoes rests with the sole, which is made of jute ropes or braided hemp.
The history of these shoes, traditionally known as espadrilles, goes back to the eighteenth century in the Basque and Bearn regions of France. Both regions are close to the Pyrenees mountains and the border of Spain. On the Spanish side of the border, the history of espadrilles can be traced back to the 12th century during the period of King Aragon.
The birthplace of espadrilles is Spain, and these shoes spread to neighboring countries such as France in the 18th century. By the 19th century, these shoes were fabricated in large amount for distribution in Mauleon, France. They have been handmade by locals since the 18th century to present day.
Today, the Savates you buy from us are still hand-made by local villagers in Spain and France. Savate gives you the traditional craftsmanship passed down for generations, with updated modern designs from our design team in California. Savate shoes are ecologically friendly, recyclable, organic, and 100 % bio-degradable.
